OVERVIEW
Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the
maintenance, alteration, and repair of the UCSD Aquatics
facilities and their related equipment. Provide work direction
to student maintenance employees. May work independently or
assist journey-level Maintenance Mechanics with the operation,
maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, systems and
components.

* Must be able to swim, enough to save own life. SCUBA
certification preferred.
* Must have a valid CA driver license (or be willing to get
within 10 days of hire). Must maintain good driving record and
participate in DMV pull notice program throughout duration of
employment.

TASKS
PLUMBING AND PIPE-FITTING:
- Monitor, maintain, alter and repair
building, locker room, bathroom, and
pool/spa plumbing systems. This includes all
domestic hot and cold water copper pipe
plumbing, floor drain plumbing, urinal,
toilet, sink, shower related hardware, and
any pool/spa related plumbing systems such
as filtration, heating, and chemical
plumbing systems.
SHEET METAL:
- Perform welding and soldering as needed in
the maintenance, repair, alteration and
replacement of designated building and
facility components. This includes
scoreboard mounting framework, building
awning framework, metal outdoor furniture,
etc.
AIR CONTROL, FILTRATION SYSTEMS, EXHAUST AND
SUPPLY FANS:
- Maintain and repair building HVAC systems.
This includes replacing motors, switches,
etc.
POOL AND SPA FILTRATION / WATER CHEMISTRY
CONTROL SYSTEMS:
- Assist with monitoring, maintaining,
repairing and altering swimming pool and spa
filtration, water chemistry, and heating
equipment.
CARPENTRY:
- Monitor, maintain, alter and repair
building walls, ceilings and floors. This
includes locker rooms, restrooms, offices,
doors, gates, fences, etc. Perform drywall
repairs and renovations. Prep and paint a
variety of walls and surfaces. Repair and
replace existing tile; install new tile.
MASONRY:
- Perform concrete demolition and repair as
needed in the course of various repair jobs.
This includes footings for building trellis
posts, pool deck concrete work as part of
underground filter plumbing repairs, etc.
Construct, maintain and repair walks, walls
and floors.
ELECTRICAL:
- Spa Electrical Systems: Assist with
maintaining, altering and repairing spa
electrical equipment. This includes pump
motors, water chemistry controllers, and
related equipment.
- Building Electrical Systems: Assist with
monitoring, maintaining, altering and
repairing building electrical equipment.
This includes troubleshooting, repairing and
replacing conduit, wiring and GFCI outlets.
Install new conduit, pull-string, wires,
etc.
- Indoor/Outdoor/Underwater Lighting
Systems: Monitor, maintain, alter, repair
and replace indoor, outdoor and underwater
lighting systems. This includes re-lamping,
ballasts, light fixtures, conduit and wiring
associated with underwater pool lights,
ceiling lights, Climbing Gym light systems,
office and locker room fluorescent light
systems, outdoor building-mounted and
pole-mounted lighting systems.
- Aquatic Competition Scoring Systems:
Monitor, maintain, alter and repair pool
deck competition swimming and water polo
electronic scoring equipment. This includes
in-ground and building surface mounted
conduit and wiring, scoreboard mounted
modules, and associated electrical and
signal wiring.
SAFETY:
- Understand and implement proper safety
procedures for handling pool chemicals, and
for handling and repairing electrical
equipment.
- Understand applicable pool and building
codes; implement and/or correct all aquatic
facility procedures and/or conditions to
comply with said codes.
- Understand and implement proper techniques
for lifting and/or moving light, medium and
heavy weight equipment in the course of
daily work activities.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE:
- Perform on-going and preventive
maintenance on building equipment and
systems. This includes working on air
handler belts and filters, building and
perimeter fence door and lock hardware, and
GFCI outlets. Change engine oil, spark plugs
and filters on small gasoline engines. Snake
floor drains. Maintain or replace waterless
urinal cartridges and associated plumbing,
and pool/spa chemical injectors, etc.
LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE:
- Perform a variety of tasks in the
maintenance and alteration of landscaped
areas: mow, weed, trim, check and repair
irrigation systems. This includes repair and
alteration of sprinklers and related PVC
plumbing. Monitor landscape, and correct or
report problems, areas of neglect, etc.
