In addition to encounters with the legendary white shark, this white shark safari in South Africa also contains lectures by marine biologist and shark researcher David Bernvi.
White shark is the world’s largest predatory fish. It can reach a total length of 5.9 meters and weigh up to 2,000 kg. The great white shark is also warm-blooded and is a specialist in hunting marine mammals. We are in the best place in the world to see white sharks under the best possible conditions of the year and here you learn so much from David. Cape Town is the largest city in South Africa.

DAY 1, JULY 16TH
Depart the evening before or in the morning this day. Upon arrival in Cape Town, you will be met by our representative on site and along the way to our hotel we will have a short sightseeing tour.
Depending on arrival time, you can explore the city on your own.

DAY 2, JULY 17TH
We check out and our driver picks us up at the reception. We head to Mossel Bay (about 5 hours). We check in at our hotel by the sea, where you will meet our shark expert David Bernvi. In the afternoon you have a lecture by David about white sharks.

DAY 3, JULY 18TH
After breakfast we go to White Shark Africa. (approx. 10 min). Review of the crew. Burdyk with the Great White Sharks in Mossel Bay. The mythical white shark is one of the most misunderstood and endangered predators we have in the sea. There are fewer than 5,000 individuals left in the world’s oceans today, so this is a good opportunity to see them in its natural environment. The white shark tour lasts for about 3.5-4 hours.
Note * All equipment is in place. The great white shark dive is weather dependent. Sharks are wild animals and seeing white sharks is not guaranteed.
DAY 4, JULY 19TH
After breakfast we go back to White Shark Africa. (approx. 10 min) Burdyk with Great White Sharks in Mossel Bay.
DAY 5, JULY 20TH
After breakfast you go to White Shark Africa. We do our last cage dive with the Great White Sharks in Mossel Bay.
After the dive, you return to the hotel and freshen up before check-out and then drive to the safari lodge. (approx. 0.5 hrs)
You check in at the Gondwana Game Reserve and stay in the Kwena lodge with its modern yet traditional Khoi-San style. Each lodge has an open-plan layout with 180-degree views of the beautiful countryside. Lunch is served on arrival and then time for some rest. In the afternoon you will be picked up for your first game drive in the reserve. Dinner is served at the lodge.

DAY 6, JULY 21ST
Early before the sun has risen, you are served a cup of coffee and set off for the day’s first game drive. When you are back at the lodge, a delicious breakfast is served. You rest a bit until lunch and then have game drive in the afternoon. Dinner in the evening.

DAY 7, JULY 22ND
Early morning safari before check-out and you drive back to Cape Town for departure home. (approx. 4.5-5 hours)
DAY 8, JULY 23RD
Return to Sweden.

LUGGAGE:
Max 20 kg from Sweden. Please take part in current hand luggage rules at www.swedavia.se.
DRIVING:
International driver’s license required. It is left-hand traffic and the roads are generally in good condition and it is well signposted. A maximum of 0.05 per mille alcohol in the blood is allowed when driving a car, a seat belt is mandatory.
EL:
220V, adapter needed and the right 3 hollow type can be procured in South Africa.
MOBILE PHONE:
Works normally but check with your operator before departure. Mobile ban on safari. Bring your own charger and adapter. Power pack recommended.
CHECK-IN:
From Scandinavia, it is good to be at the airport two hours before departure. We recommend that you confirm your further flight during the trip no later than 72 hours before. Our on-site representative or hotel staff can assist with this.
CLIMATE:
Varies what time of year you travel and where in the country you are. In the Cape area it is dry and sunny November to March with about 26 – 30º C during the day. It is usually rainy and cool from June to August with temperatures between 5 and 18º C. In the Durban area it is hot and humid October to March and a little drier and cooler April to September.
FOOD:
Kitchens from all corners of the world as well as domestic dishes are available here at good prices. For those who like the delicacies of the sea, there are plenty of seafood restaurants.
PASSPORT / VISA:
The passport must be valid for at least 30 days after departure from South Africa and have at least two blank pages for stamps, this is important. Visas are not required for Swedish citizens. For children under 18 years of age, special rules apply.
LANGUAGE:
English works well.
TIME DIFFERENCE:
+1 hour compared to Swedish normal time.
EQUIPMENT / UPHOLSTERY:
For the safari / white shark traveler: Comfortable casual wear, windbreaker, rainwear, fleece / thick sweater, gloves, comfortable sneakers, swimwear, binoculars, camera, mosquito repellent, sunscreen. It is not a ‘dress code’ for dinner on safari. Wetsuit / cyclop is available on board for the cage dive.
VACCINATIONS:
Basic protection and hepatitis A vaccine are recommended. Malaria prophylaxis for certain regions. (Not the Cape area) Yellow fever vaccine is required if you come from countries where there is a risk of infection. Always consult a vaccination center.
CURRENCY:
South African Rand (ZAR). According to Countryaah, ZAR can be easily exchanged in Sweden. The standard credit cards work well. Normal tips for good service are 10 – 15% at restaurants, luggage carriers about 5 ZAR, to the ranger / captain on the safari / boat about 50 ZAR / day and person.
