Country overview
Although it lies in the center of Rome, the Vatican is an independent state, the smallest state in the world. It is located on the west bank of the Tiber River and its medieval walls separate it from the rest of the Roman buildings. The exception is the open wide square with the Cathedral of St. Peter on its southwest side.
According to Abbreviationfinder, the Vatican is the smallest state in the world inside the territory of Rome, associated with Italy. The Vatican is located on the Vatican Hill in the northwestern part of Rome. The name comes from the name of the hill Mons Vaticanus – a place of divination. It is surrounded on all sides by Italian territory.
The population is 830 people. The source of income is donations from Catholics around the world. Tourism and the sale of souvenirs bring large incomes.
Resorts and attractions of the Vatican
The Vatican is the smallest state in the world. An interesting story of its creation is ambiguous, since the ancient Romans did not want to settle in a holy place for them. But after Christianity appeared here, for some reason the holy place was inhabited. This happened in 326. The very same state of the Vatican appeared on the territory of Rome in 1929 after the conclusion of the Lutheran agreements by the Italian government.
The Vatican is both a city and a state. The Vatican is located on the hill of Monte Vaticano, from where it got its name. Due to the fact that the city is the residence of the Pope, it is visited by many tourists. The Vatican preserves the historical and religious monuments of Rome.
Now the Vatican lets tourists into its wonderful gardens, this happened for the first time in its entire centuries-old history. It is allowed to conduct such tours only in minibuses.
In the Vatican, masterpieces of architecture are located – St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Library.
