Travel in South Africa
South Africa is the rainbow nation! The Kruger National Park, the Drakensberg, the Garden Route and Cape Town are just some of the fantastic highlights.
WHY SHOULD WE GO TO SOUTH AFRICA?
Beautiful cities, Big Fivesafari, incredible wines, superb food and wonderful hiking trails in the mountains. If any of this is for you, then a trip to South Africa is something to think about! South Africa is probably the continent’s most diverse country, there is actually something for everyone in the rainbow nation. The best way to start planning for your trip in South Africa is to tell us what you like to do and we will put together a completely unique trip in South Africa for you.
Cape Town: The lovely Cape Town is beautifully situated on the slopes of the iconic Table Mountain. Here you can experience, among other things; Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope, Robben Island, the penguins on Boulders Beach at Simon’s Town and Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, just to name a few. You need at least three nights to explore this wonderfully lively city.
Kruger National Park: It does not matter if you live in the middle of the park or in one of the adjacent private reserves, you will experience the safari of your life! Kruger is one of the largest protected natural areas in Africa. Thanks to that you will find an incredible amount of varied wildlife, including the Big Five!
Garden Route: On a guided tour or in a rental car on your own, there is something for everyone during a trip along the Garden Route, which stretches between Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay. Most start or end their tour in Plettenberg Bay which has one of South Africa’s finest beaches and is absolutely perfect for family activities. Forward along the road to Cape Town awaits lots of adventure, white shark cage diving, surfing, horseback riding, ostrich farms, hiking and the world’s highest bungy jump. This is the area for everyone!
Wine districts: You can visit any system company and get a real lesson about this area. From here come not only some but the world’s best wines, it is also one of the most beautiful regions in the world. You can explore the area at your own pace, from a quick visit to a wine tasting to a day trip with a qualified wine guide. The wine districts are well worth a visit.
Eastern Cape: This is a perfect area for malaria-free safaris. Here are, for example, the Kariega Game Reserve, the Kwandwe and Shamvari reserves. The top for families with demands for good safari quality. Here are the Big Five and even the Big Seven if you include whales and white sharks! A three-night safari is a perfect way to start or end your trip in South Africa.
KwaZulu-Natal: Known as Zululand and is often overlooked, which is a big mistake. This is one of the best destinations in South Africa with incredible safaris and warm tropical beaches. In addition, here you meet the legendary Zulu people and their culture. It all starts at King Shaka Airport in Durban…
Drakensberg: Like a castle wall surrounding Lesotho, the Drakensberg towers over this area. This is truly the adventure capital of South Africa. Perfect for hiking and trekking in South Africa with trails and paths for everyone. You can also explore the area from horseback, an unbeatable experience for those who can ride.
WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA?
May to September – Dry season, winter
- Wildlife is easier to detect because the variability is lower and the animals congregate by rivers and water holes
- Frugal rain – the sky is clear and high with sunny days and fewer mosquitoes and insects
- Low season and the parks are sparsely visited. (Except for Kruger during school holidays)
- Mornings and nights are chilly
October to April – rainy season – summer
- Nature becomes green and beautiful after the spring rains
- Best time for bird watching, migratory birds return
- Rain is rare and occurs mainly as refreshing short afternoon showers
- The wildlife is a little harder to find, but for photographers the pictures are fantastic
- December, January and February are the warmest months and the parks are well visited
- Best time to visit South Africa
