DAY 1 ARRIVAL WITH CITY TOUR OF ADDIS ABABA

Your guide will meet you at the airport in Addis and take you on a tour of the capital. You make two museum visits, the National Museum and the Ethnographic Museum.

DAY 2 BAHAR DAR, LAKE TANA AND THE BLUE NILE

Early transfer to the airport and after an hour of domestic flight you are in Bahar Dar. You take a boat trip on Lake Tana which takes you to a monastery. Then visit the Blue Nile Falls ‘Tis Abay’ which means smoking water.

DAY 3 LALIBELA

Short flight to Lalibela. You will understand why the 13th century stone churches are called the eighth wonders of the world. They are carved directly from the granite and are still used today by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Breakfast included.

DAY 4 ON TO GONDAR – FORMER CAPITAL

In the morning you visit a few more churches and at lunch continue with a flight to Gondar, the country’s old capital. Here you see large stone castles and palaces from the 17th century. Breakfast included.

DAY 5 SIMIENBERGEN NATIONAL PARK

Your car will pick you up at the hotel and you will drive to Debark where the headquarters of Simiens Mountains National Park is located. You meet your trekking guide and drive to your first camp at Sankaber. About 3 hours of hiking this day which ends around the campfire. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

DAY 6 HIKING IN THE SIMIEN MOUNTAINS

Your guide will point out interesting plants and natural phenomena during your hike. If you are lucky, you will come across the peaceful but large gala baboons, ibex antelopes and rock springs. You get to see waterfalls and visit a traditional village during the day’s hike. (Approx. 6 hours) Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

DAY 7 SIMIENBERGEN NATIONAL PARK

The hike goes up and you reach about 4,070 meters above sea level and the hike goes over grassy plains and through forest landscapes. Overnight stay in the camp in Chennek. (Approx. 7 hours) Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.

DAY 8 SIMIENBERGEN

Today you reach the highest point during your hike. The day starts at a steady pace but gets tougher as you go. You get to see fantastic views and the wildlife here is rich, Ethiopian wolf, ibex, monkeys and a variety of birds. Overnight at the camp in Chennek. (Approx. 5-6 hours) Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

DAY 9 LIMALIMO LODGE

You drive to Limalimo Lodge and relax after your adventure in the mountains (about 2.5 hours). Breakfast included.

DAY 10 AXUM AND QUEEN OF SHEBA

Today you drive about 4 hours to Axum, Ethiopia’s most religious city. Here you see the famous obelisks and according to rumor, the Queen of Sheba lived in the city which is also the place where the mythical Church of St Mary of Zion is located. Breakfast included.

DAY 11 AXUM AND QUEEN OF SHEBA

Explore the old town in the morning before driving to Gheralta Lodge for the night. Breakfast included.

DAY 12 ADDIS ABABA

You go to Mekele Airport and visit two fantastic churches along the way. Fly to Addis Ababa where your journey through history ends. Breakfast included.
