According to localcollegeexplorer, Thailand, formerly known as Siam, is a country located in Southeast Asia. It has a rich history that dates back to the 13th century when it was established as an independent kingdom under the Sukhothai Dynasty. Since then, various dynasties and kingdoms have risen and fallen in Thailand, leading to its current form as a constitutional monarchy. The Ayutthaya Kingdom was the most powerful political force in Thailand for over four centuries from the 14th to 18th centuries. This period saw Thailand become a leading regional power with strong ties to China and other countries in Southeast Asia. It also saw increased trade with European nations such as Portugal, France, and England which helped introduce Buddhism and other cultural elements into Thai society. In 1767 the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya and destroyed much of its capital city. This led to a period of chaos and instability in Thailand until General Taksin declared himself king of Siam in 1769 and established the Thonburi Dynasty. However this dynasty only lasted until 1782 when General Chakri overthrew Taksin and founded the Chakri Dynasty which still reigns today with King Maha Vajiralongkorn currently being its 10th ruler. Under this new dynasty Thailand experienced unprecedented economic growth due to increased foreign trade with Europe and Japan while also modernizing many of its social institutions such as education, health care, transportation networks etc.. In 1932 a bloodless revolution led by Pridi Phanomyong ended absolute monarchy rule while introducing democratic reforms such as universal suffrage which remain in place today. Since then Thailand has seen periods of stability interspersed with military coups throughout its history but remains one of Southeast Asia’s most developed countries with strong ties to both Western nations like US, UK etc.. And regional powers like China while also playing an important role in regional peacekeeping operations such as those conducted by ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF). Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country located in Southeast Asia and has a population of around 64 million people. It is bordered by Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. The capital city of Bangkok was home to around 8 million people and was known for its vibrant culture and lively markets. The official language of Thailand was Thai with English also being widely spoken. The currency used in Thailand was the Thai Baht (THB). The economy of Thailand in 2010 mainly relied on exports, tourism as well as agriculture and foreign aid. Exports accounted for around 60% of GDP with key exports being rice, automobiles, computers, rubber and textiles. Tourism also provided an important source of revenue for the country with many tourists visiting to experience its breathtaking landscapes such as the beaches on Phuket Island or the stunning temples in Chiang Mai. Agriculture accounted for nearly 12% of GDP with key crops being rice, maize, cassava, rubber and cotton. Foreign aid also provided an important source of revenue to help improve infrastructure in the country such as roads and bridges. The government also invested heavily into infrastructure projects such as highways and airports which helped to improve connectivity within the country as well as attract more tourists from abroad. In addition, there were numerous technological advancements such as internet access that were being implemented in some parts of the country in order to make it more competitive globally.
