Since then, Singapore has grown to become one of the most prosperous countries in Southeast Asia, with a strong economy and robust infrastructure. It is also an important regional hub for finance and trade, as well as an international transportation center. The country’s success is often attributed to its meritocratic system and its focus on education, which have allowed it to develop into a modern metropolis with world-class amenities. In recent years, Singapore has increasingly embraced technology and innovation as part of its economic development strategy. This has led to numerous initiatives such as Smart Nation and Industry 4.0 that are helping to make Singapore one of the most advanced countries in Asia Pacific region technologically speaking. In 2010, Singapore was a parliamentary republic located in Southeast Asia. This small nation had an area of 719.9 square kilometers and a population of around 5 million people. The capital and largest city was Singapore while other major cities included Bukit Timah and Jurong East. English, Malay, Chinese and Tamil were the official languages of the country. The economy of Singapore in 2010 was highly developed and diversified with services accounting for around 75% of GDP followed by manufacturing at about 20%. Services included finance, banking, tourism, shipping and logistics while manufacturing included electronics, chemicals and pharmaceuticals. In terms of infrastructure, Singapore had a modern port at Tanjong Pagar which enabled easy access to international trade partners. A well-developed road system connected all parts of the country while public transportation options included buses and trains for tourists to explore its vibrant culture, stunning beaches and nature reserves including Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
