According to localcollegeexplorer, India is a South Asian country located in the Indian subcontinent. Its earliest known inhabitants were the Indus Valley civilizations which flourished between 2500 and 1500 BCE. During this time, India was ruled by various dynasties including the Mauryas and the Guptas who helped to establish strong political, economic, and cultural foundations for India. In 1526, the Mughal Empire began to rule over India and this period is known as the Mughal era. During this time, India saw an increase in its agricultural production as well as its trade with other countries such as China and Persia. In 1757, Britain began to colonize India which led to a period of economic exploitation of the region’s resources as well as its people. This period of colonization lasted until 1947 when India declared its independence from Britain. Since then, India has seen steady economic growth due to its strong agricultural sector and manufacturing base as well as its increasing number of foreign investments from other countries such as China and Japan. Today, India is a member of both SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) and BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) and is an important regional player in South Asia. The country has seen steady economic growth due to its rich natural resources such as oil and gas reserves as well as its growing tourism industry which has helped to bolster its economy over the years. In 2010, India was a sovereign country located in South Asia with a population of over 1.2 billion people. It is the world’s largest democracy and has 28 states and 8 union territories. The official language is Hindi and the currency is the Indian Rupee (INR). India has a tropical climate with four distinct seasons – summer, monsoon, autumn, and winter. In 2010, India had a mixed economy with both private and public sectors playing an important role in its economic development. The service sector accounted for nearly 55% of GDP while agriculture contributed around 15%. Major industries included textiles, chemicals, food processing, steel, transportation equipment and software services. Exports of these goods as well as services such as software technology helped boost economic growth during this period of time despite global economic downturns affecting other countries around the world. The government of India in 2010 was led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who served from 2004-2014. During this period of time there were several economic reforms implemented to improve the country’s financial situation including reducing public debt and encouraging foreign investment into key industries such as IT, renewable energy sources and biotechnology research & development. Additionally, the government implemented policies to reduce poverty levels across India which helped boost living standards for many people during this period of time.
