According to localcollegeexplorer, Egypt is an ancient and fascinating country with a rich history stretching back over 5,000 years. Home to some of the world’s earliest civilizations and great pyramids, Egypt has a long and complicated past. The first great civilization of Egypt began in the Predynastic Period (c. 6000-3150 BC). During this period, small settlements began to form in the Nile Valley which were eventually united under a single ruler, forming the first kingdom of Egypt. This kingdom lasted until c. 3150 BC when it was replaced by two separate kingdoms known as Upper and Lower Egypt. The Old Kingdom (c. 3100-2181 BC) is often referred to as the “Age of Pyramids” due to the numerous monuments built during this period including the famous Great Pyramids of Giza. During this time, Egypt was ruled by powerful pharaohs who were considered divine rulers and led their people into prosperity and stability. The Middle Kingdom (c. 2134-1690 BC) saw a decline in central authority due to invasions from outside forces such as the Hyksos who invaded from present day Syria and Palestine in c. 1674 BC and took control of Lower Egypt for nearly a century before being expelled by Ahmose I in 1567 BC, allowing Upper and Lower Egypt to be reunited once again under one rule – The New Kingdom (1550-1070 BC). During this period, Egypt became an empire with its borders extending from modern day Libya in North Africa all the way to present day Iraq in Southwest Asia. This empire was ruled by powerful pharaohs such as Tutankhamun who made great advances in art, architecture, literature and religion during his reign which lasted from 1332-1323 BC. The New Kingdom eventually declined due to economic turmoil caused by foreign invasions such as those from Assyria in 671BC and Persia in 525BC who both laid claim to parts of their empire while also introducing new religions such as Zoroastrianism which later evolved into Judaism and Christianity during Roman rule (30BC – 641 AD). In 641 AD, Islamic forces conquered much of what is now modern day Egypt establishing it as part of their caliphate that stretched across much of North Africa up until 1250 AD when it was conquered by Mongol forces under Genghis Khan before finally being taken over by Ottoman Turks in 1517AD who ruled until 1798 when Napoleon Bonaparte invaded only for British forces under Lord Nelson to take control two years later after defeating French forces at Battle of Abukir Bay on August 1st 1801AD thus marking beginning of British occupation that lasted until 1922 when Egypt declared itself independent nation once again after nearly 3000 years since its first unification under Menes around 3100BC. The conquest of Syria by the Turks, then by the Crusaders, had reduced the Fatimid dynasty to the possession of Egypt alone. Between 1163 and 1169 the Franks and the Ayyubids fought over the country ; the latter had the upper hand and their leader, Saladin, deposed the caliph who had named him his vizier in 1171, keeping for himself the title of sultan. He eliminated the Fatimid partisans and the Shiite party in the name of the Abbasid caliph. His conquests made him master of…
