During the big Kenyan safari, we will meet Kenya’s population which is about 45 million and has one of Africa’s most diverse origins. Kikuyu, luhya, lou, akamba and of course masai and samburu are the largest and most distinctive tribes. The smallest tribe is el-molo, which lives by Lake Turkana. The country is 75% Christian and the rest are Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and natural religions. According to Countryaah, the official language of Kenya is English and Swahili. The capital Nairobi, today a modern metropolis, is the starting point for most safari trips.

The Big Five animals are; lions, rhinos, elephants, buffalo and leopards, all except buffalo and leopard are highly endangered. The jewel in the safari crown is the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve where migration takes place during our Swedish autumn. About two million wildebeest, zebras, antelopes and gazelles come from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in the footsteps of the rain in search of fresh pasture. Other national parks well worth a visit if you are interested in animals are Nakuru, Meru, Samburu, Amboseli and Tsavo.

During this trip you get to experience large parts of the country and a lot of good safaris!

DAY 1

Flight in the afternoon / evening from the selected airport to Nairobi. The great Kenyan safari begins.

DAY 2

Arrival Nairobi in the morning. After passport, visa and customs formalities, you will be met by your safari driver and you will pack your 4-wheel-drive land cruiser and drive south to Amboseli National Park (approx. 4-5 hours).

You arrive just in time for lunch at your accommodation at Kibo Safari Camp. Here you stay 2 nights with full board. In the afternoon you have the first safari.

DAY 3

Safari early morning before breakfast. Then back to the lodge for a good brunch and some rest. In the afternoon you have another game drive in the national park. If you are a real safari fan, it is possible to arrange a full day safari with a picnic lunch.

DAY 4

Today you turn north again through the Kenyan landscape. You arrive in the city of Nairobi for lunch (not included this day) You check in at the Tamarind Tree Hotel for an overnight stay. In the evening, transfers and dinner at the famous Carnivore Restaurant are included.

DAY 5

Early start and at 0700 you will be picked up by your driver and steer the cow north. After about five to six hours you arrive at Samburu / Shaba National Reserve. Here you check in for 2 nights at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Full board included. After lunch, have nine afternoon game drives in the Buffalo Springs area.

DAY 6

Morning and afternoon safari in the Shaba and Samburu National Reserve. Here the landscape is hilly, which makes it more exciting to look for wild animals. Here are, among other things; Grevyzebra, brick giraffe, giraffe antelope and Somali ostrich endemic to the area. But you are also looking for elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, oryx antelope, Grant’s gazelle, ditch and water buck that are all found here.

DAY 7

After breakfast you travel on to Aberdare and check in for 2 nights at Rhino Watch Lodge and here you have lunch. In the afternoon you have a safari in the Solio reserve. Work is underway here to save black and white rhinos. Full board included.

DAY 8

After breakfast you head to Olpejeta at the foot of Mount Kenya (about 1 hour). You have a picnic lunch with you, so the whole day can be spent with the chimpanzees that live here and game drive in the reserve. In the afternoon return to Rhino Watch for overnight stay. Full board included.

DAY 9

You continue your journey to Lake Elementita and check in at Sunbird Lodge with a wonderful view of the lake. Today the afternoon is free for some time by the pool. But if you are eager to get moving, there is the opportunity (extra cost for entrances etc) for mountain biking, trekking in Hells Gate National Park or a boat trip on Lake Naivasha.

DAY 10

Today you go to Nakuruparken for game drive (safari tour) in the small but nice national park. Here you look for rhinos, buffalo, Rotchilds giraffe, pink flamingos, leopard, black and white colobus monkey, lion and rhino.

Return to Sunbird Lodge for overnight stay. Full board included.

DAY 11

Early check-out and on on sometimes tough roads (about 5-6 hours) to the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve. Here the Masai people live with their herds of animals and the further you get along the way, the more red Masai shukas you see. Once at your lodge you check in for 3 nights and get a lunch served. In the afternoon you go on your first game drive (safari trip) in the reserve. Accommodation with full board.

DAY 12

Enjoy a full day on the savannah with its beautiful solitary acacia trees. Here are the famous Big Five, lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard.

DAY 13

Safari, safari.

If you have a full day safari, you bring a picnic lunch, otherwise lunch is eaten at the lodge between your game drives (safari tours).

DAY 14

Today you leave the wild and head back to Nairobi. Here you take the flight home or extend the trip with a few baths & sunny days on the coast, price on request.

DAY 15

Return to Sweden.
