During this family trip in South Africa, you will experience, among other things, the history of Soweto, the culture of Zululand, a wonderful safari in the Kariega Game Reserve, beautiful Garden Route, wine landscape and the metropolis of Cape Town. Everything at a reasonable pace and with local guides throughout the trip that takes place in a minibus. The family trip in South Africa has something for everyone in the family!

DAY 1

You land in the morning in Johannesburg, curious about your family trip in South Africa. On arrival you will be met by our representative and will be transferred to Garden Court Sandton City. The hotel is centrally located and close to shopping in the suburb of Sandton. After the long flight, you can comfortably sit back and enjoy a moment by the pool.

In the afternoon you will be picked up by a guide who will take you on a city tour of Johannesburg and Soweto. Among other things, you will visit the Carlton Center, Top of Africa, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city of Johannesburg. In the suburb of Soweto you visit, among other things, the Hector Pieterson Museum.

Options that can be booked are, for example, the amusement park “Gold Reef City”. The amusement park is one of the largest in South Africa and has as its theme the golden rush season. Here you will find a number of exciting rides, restaurants, shops, an old gold mine and a museum. (Closed Mondays and Tuesdays) Excursion at own cost.

DAY 2 & 3

Today you go south to the province of KwaZulu-Natal, the home of the famous Zulu people. A transfer of about 4 hours takes you through the open savannah until you reach the mountains at Spioenkop Dammen where nature turns into lush valleys. At lunch you reach your family hotel located in the northern Drakensberg region. Here there is a playground and pool that is suitable for children. You can also enjoy activities such as hiking, horse riding and fishing at your own expense.

Every day you can join either a short or long optional walk with an experienced mountain guide.

DAY 4

After breakfast, check out and head out to the subtropical seaside resort and port city of Durban, located on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

On the way to Durban you will make a stop at Howick Falls and you visit a Zulu village where you get a little insight into the everyday life of the Zulu people.

In the afternoon when you arrive in Durban, you can take the opportunity to enjoy a beach walk.

DAY 5

Today we pay a visit to the fantastic uShaka Marine World in Durban, which is a family-friendly aquarium and water park by the sea. Here you can watch dolphin and seal shows, there is a lagoon for snorkeling and diving in shark cages or you just enjoy the beach.

In the afternoon you get your own time and then you can take the opportunity to visit one of the colorful African markets and the Indian bazaar. Here you can buy ceramics, pearls, leather goods and silk. Feel free to take a break at Durban Yacht Mole Restaurant & Pub which is located overlooking the harbor where ships from all over the world enter.

DAY 6

After breakfast you will receive a transfer to the airport in Durban. Here you say goodbye to your guide and fly on with domestic flights to Port Elizabeth.

On arrival in Port Elizabeth you will meet and get a transfer to the Kariega Game Reserve, it takes about 2 hours. This part of South Africa is malaria free. Already in the afternoon you will have your first safari and if you are lucky you will have the opportunity to see The Big Five; buffalo, elephant, lion, rhino and leopard. The reason why these animals are called The Big Five is they were considered the most difficult and dangerous animals to hunt on foot on the African savannah. Today, they are working full time to stop poachers and ban the trade in these wild animals.

DAY 7

An exciting day with two safaris in an open Landrover with an English-speaking, professional safari guide. The first tour starts early in the morning when it is still a bit chilly and the animals are active. There are many bird species, antelopes, monkeys and the opportunity to see lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo is not entirely uncommon. Lunch and rest at the lodge during lunch and in the afternoon you go out on a so-called game drive, safari, again. You can also complement your safari experience with a boat trip along the Kariega River or kayak yourself. In the evenings you can relax and enjoy a sundowner on the terrace.

After an event rich day with many nice animal experiences, the children will surely be tired and fall asleep early. Then the adults can take the opportunity to enjoy quiet time, maybe a glass of wine and if it is clear out in the evening you can see a wonderful starry sky.

DAY 8

Today the journey continues and you drive via Port Elizabeth to Tsitsikamma National Park along the famous Garden Route. You will drive along the scenic coast and pass picturesque towns along the way. In Tsitsikamma National Park you can make a stop where you can see the Big Tree and go for a little hike where you can cross the suspension bridge over the Storms River.

You then continue via the beautiful coastal town of Plettenberg Bay to your stop for the night, the scenic town of Knysna and here you check in for 3 nights.

DAY 9

In the morning you take a boat cruise across the lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve. This privately owned nature reserve is located on the western part of Knysna Heads. We cross Knysna Lagoon and when we arrive at the reserve you get a car ride that takes you up to the top. Stop along the way where you can enjoy the fantastic views. On the way back you make a scenic hike down the mountain and along the lagoon. You eat lunch at an outdoor restaurant, lunch is included.

After lunch you go to the boat that takes you back to Knysna Waterfront. The rest of the afternoon you have on your own.

DAY 10

An own day that you can choose for yourself how you want to spend.

Take it easy and relax or you can get help from your guide who can give you tips on what not to miss right now in Knysna.

DAY 11

After breakfast you continue your family trip in South Africa and you drive along the Garden Route, you make a short stop at the railway museum in George.

When you arrive in Oudtshoorn, you go to the well-known Cango Cave where you get a guided tour inside the caves.

The afternoon is spent on your own.

DAY 12

After breakfast you do a guided tour on an ostrich farm, where you get to learn about the African ostrich. Oudtshoorn is known as the capital of the feathers and delivered feathers to the royal houses in Europe during the 17th and 19th centuries.

You then continue along the scenic road through the wine districts and in the late afternoon you reach your destination for the day, Cape Town.

DAY 13

If the weather allows, today you take the cable car up to the top of Taffelberget. From an altitude of 1,085 meters you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Cape Town and its peninsula. If you are lucky, you may come across a dassie, rock badger, which lives up here in the mountains.

When you come down again from Taffelberget, you continue with a city tour in Cape Town. You visit the Good Hope Fortress, Greenmarket Square and Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, among others.

DAY 14

Today you do a full day trip, Cape Point & Peninsula Tour – Godahoppsudden nature reserve.
You will be picked up at your hotel in the morning and you will travel along the Atlantic coast via Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay. It will be a stop in Hout Bay, a picturesque village and fishing port. Here, anyone who wants to and if the weather allows, can take a boat trip to Seal Island at their own expense.
You continue along ChapmanĀ“s Peak and before lunch you reach the destination at Cape Point – Cape of Good Hope, originally known as the Cape of Storms, but changed its name to Cape of Good Hope because when you passed here, you had good hopes of reaching India, which was the goal of the merchant ships. After lunch, the tour continues back to Cape Town. You will make a stop in the historic and charming town of SimonĀ“s Town and here you will not miss the cute penguins that live on the beautiful beach Boulders Beach. If you have time, you may also make a stop at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, entry at your own expense. After this full day you will be driven back to your hotel where you will arrive in the late afternoon.

DAY 15

Today you go on a full day trip to the fine wine districts. You will visit Stellenbosch, which is full of South African history, the charming historic city of Franschhoek and Paarl, which is one of the Cape region’s first agricultural districts. During the day you will stop by to visit fine vineyards and you will enjoy wine tastings. You return to city life after an interesting day in the country and arrive back at the hotel at around 17:30 and here we say goodbye to our guide.

DAY 16
