Instructions For Setting Up An IP Camera

Installing an IP camera is a simpler task than you can imagine.
These equipments bring an extremely friendly program of installation assistance, leaving the user with only the task of reading and following the instructions.

IP cameras send pictures to the Internet

Despite the ease, you need to be aware of two details.
The first is: some installation manuals still come only in English.
Then, to install the camera the user must have at home or in the place where they want to have the device connected, a router or a switch.
After this, the greatest difficulty for the installation will be in the choice of the most suitable place for fixing the camera.

See below for the steps to have the equipment turned on.

Step 1
Power the camera (source, PPOE or direct power) the camera will normally light an LED, indicating that the power has been turned on. In the case of domes, in one or two seconds she will do a test tour of the camera.
Be careful and read the manual to check the type of power most suitable for the camera.

Step 2

Connect one end of the network cable to the same Internet router on which your computer is connected.
Then plug the other end of the cable into the camera’s ethernet port.Even if you use it on a wireless network, at the time of making the settings it must be installed with the cable.

Step 3

Now with the camera properly connected, we will enter your Ip to configure it.
Install the camera location software on the computer, this software usually comes with a camera on a CD, if you do not have it, enter the manufacturer’s website, the software session or downloads and look for the Ips Utilities.
Examples:
AXIS – IPUtilityes
VivoTek – Instalation Wizard
GrandStream – Gsurf …. Among others.

In the case of the Axis and Vivotek cameras, it does not matter what range of Ip the computer is, as long as the camera and the computer are on the same network, they will locate the cameras. In the case of GrandStream they must necessarily be in the same range of IP, in case this does not happen, the software will not recognize the camera. In that case it would be easier to reset the camera and put the computer in the network of the standard Ip camera.
Examples:
Axis – Make a note of the camera MAC and configure it from the software.
VivoTek – Make a note of the camera MAC and configure it from the software.
GrandStream – 192.168.1.168 (Computer and Camera have to be in the same IP range)

Using the Installation Wizard 2 – Vivotek.
Run the “Installation Wizard 2” found in the Software Utility Directory on the Software CD.
The program will analyze your network environment.After analyzing the network, click the “Next” button to continue the program.

The program searches VIVOTEK Camcorders, Video Servers or Network Cameras on the same LAN.
After searching, the main installation window will appear. Click the MAC that matches the one inscribed on the side of the camera lens or serial number of the package to connect Internet Explorer to the Network Camera.

Identified the cameras by the MAC we will click on

And with that will appear more buttons.

With the camera selected, we will click Manual Setup.

It will open a window to enter with the Login and password of the camera.

Enter Login and password and click ok, the following screen will appear.

Set the date, time, and camera name, then click Next.
The next screen will be the confirmation to configure the PPoE, click No.

Configuring the NETWORK.

Ip Address: Enter the IP of the camera, this is set by the installation, so if it is replacing the camera be sure to put the same IP of the camera that was removed.
Subnet Mask: Use the default 255.255.255.0 or specified on the network.
Default Gateway: The IP of the CFTV server is usually used as the gateway.
Primary DNS Server: DNS is responsible for resolving names, when the camera has direct Internet access, we will configure it to 8.8.8.8. which is Google’s DNS.
Secondary DNS Server: DNS is responsible for resolving names, when the camera has direct access to the Internet, we will configure it to 8.8.8.4 which is Google DNS.
Click Next.

Port Settings.

These settings are only changed if you need to, as we always set the cameras as default ports, click Next.

DDNS.

The DDNS settings are to create an internet address through a DNS such as DYNDNS or No-IP, this only if the camera has direct internet access.
Since we do not use this option, click Next.

Mobile Access.

In general we do not use this option then click No.

Wireless Settings.

These settings are only used in rare, controlled cases, click No.
Applying settings.

After completing the settings, click Apply.

If you have difficulties to visualize the camera do not forget that in some cases these cameras can only be accessed in a range ip equal to that of the computer.

Step 4

Open Internet Explorer and Enter the Camera IP.
With everything right and the camera already being recognized in the Browser we will proceed with the configuration of the Image.
Open Internet Explorer and Enter the Camera IP.
These cameras, when accessed, prompt users to enter their passwords and passwords.

Enter Username and Password and click OK.
When we get the access we have a page similar to this one. (This page varies by model and manufacturer)

We will click settings and we will be directed to a page where we have options to configure image format, image type, frames per second etc.

Configuration page item. (Basic)

Home  Clicking on this item will redirect the main page of the camera page.
System  Basic camera settings. As hostname and date and time.
Security  Options for creating and maintaining users and passwords that have access to cameras.
Network  Camera Ips settings.
DDNS  Setting the camera’s DNS (External camera access, when it has direct access to the Internet)
Audio and video  Camera image and sound settings.
Motion detection  Setting the camera’s motion detection (only used in some cases <when ​​using Digifort it is not necessary to change)
Control camera  Configures camera control via RS 485 or RS232
Maintenance  Camera Maintenance Options, such as reset, firmware update, and factory settings.

There is also the advanced configuration, but in it we will only use the Stream option to which we will explain later.

Setting up the image.
We will click on Video and Audio.

Video Title:Title that should appear in the image when we view the image, in the use of Digifort you do not need to use this option.
Color:Keep pattern.
Power Line frequency:in Brazil we use 60hz.
Video orientation:Keep pattern.
Maximum Exposure Time:Evaluate as needed, but generally maintain standard.
Iris Mode:Choose according to the use of the camera, Indoor (Indoor) or Outdoor (Outdoor).
Audio Settings:In audio preference to leave as mute, since most cameras are inside the protection box and audio capture is not used.
It is also necessary to switch to advanced camera setup mode, where we will only touch the part where the Camera Stream is concerned.

Click Advanced mode .

The setup page will open other options, but we are not interested in anything other than Audio and Video.

Then we click on Audio and Video.

We click on Video Quality setings for stream 1:

Terms then these options.

Setting up:
Select MPEG-4 or MP4. (depends on model and manufacturer)
The Frame Size should be left in a format that does not detract from the overall picture quality we leave with 320 × 240. This size ensures that the image will not be too small and you will not have lost much quality, if you estimate that it has gone too bad, increase the size so that it improves, but try not to exceed 640 × 680.

The Maximum Frame rate in case of fixed cameras can be maintained at 8 fps, (8 frames per second) considering that our eye comprises around 7fps so 8fps would be a very good quality, in case domes leave at 15fps.

Intra frame period is a setting that when the camera does not detect movement it will send a frame every X seconds that we set.
Example

In this case, if it does not detect motion, it sends a frame every 4 seconds to the system, which guarantees us a very good network bandwidth savings, solving several problems of image slowness that can be caused. Upon detecting motion, it began to transmit the image normally at 8fps.
* Note:The engineering this will define together with the installation a standard so that we can use in the clients, as we do not have this definition I advise to use common sense.
Video Quality

In this case we have two options.
Constant Bit Rate we will force a 512kbps camera bandwidth (as per example above), so the image quality will vary, causing you to go from bad to good in a matter of seconds.
Fixed quality will force image quality and make the band vary, so we will maintain image quality, but we may lose some frames.
* Note:Engineering will set a standard for using these options, but it is advisable to use Fixed quality since identifying a person or object is more interesting.

Ready our camera is set up and ready to be viewed on the IP CCTV system.
