OVERVIEW
Manage the UCSD Libraries' Metadata Services Department (MSD) computer
resources, providing administrative services and technical
support for over 90 networked Windows XP and 4 Linux
workstations. Provide advanced user support and training for
hardware and software. Assist with managing and providing
technical support for the departmental website. Serve as the
Department Systems Support Liaison (DSSL). Provide departmental
programming support for system administration, web development,
and cataloging tasks.

purchase, build MSD workstations, and

analyze, and debug peripherals such as
printers, scanners, barcode scanners,
pointing devices, keyboards, PDAs, and flash
drives.
6. Install, configure and maintain Windows
XP Pro and various builds of Linux.
7. Research, procure, install, and configure
software applications.
8. Develop and maintain an infrastructure to
host centralized system management tools,
remotely accessible virtual machines, and a
development and testing environment.
9. Provide for system backups and
maintenance of staff workstations on a
regular basis, using hardware and software
solutions as well as CCG as needed.
10. Insure departmental and individual
adherence to the UCSD minimum network
security standards.
11. Create, update, and deregister Ethernet
registrations for MSD networked devices
through ACT.
12. Implement Cisco Virtual Private Network
(VPN) for MSD employees who work remotely
and provide remote support services.
13. Install, test, and troubleshoot network
equipment and cabling.
14. Perform complex diagnostics and resolve
networking, hardware, and software problems
for MSD workstations.
15. Maintain an accurate and up to date
inventory of departmental hardware and
software.
16. Maintain documentation of all deployed
hardware, software, configurations,
licenses, and uses.
